This week’s show features a trio of Midstate musicians making traditional Balkan and Bulgarian music, very similar to the folk melodies that influenced composers like Dvorak, Brahms and Bartok.
Kyle Jones plays the tombak, a goblet-shaped drum used in Persian and Balkan music, Michael Lewandowski is a mandolinist and Nermine Begovic plays the accordion. In this show, the trio plays tunes meant for dancing, and they explain the complicated rhythms of this musical tradition.
