On the heels of their groundbreaking production of Lucy Negro, Redux, Nashville Ballet has announced their upcoming season. Once again, the company seeks to showcase its range, mixing classic offerings—including Prokofiev’s Romeo & Juliet and the annual favorite Nashville’s Nutcracker— with the envelope-pushing work that has become a Nashville Ballet hallmark over the years.
“Art exists in order to help us see ourselves and others more fully, building empathy and understanding between us,” said Paul Vasterling, Nashville Ballet’s Artistic Director. “This year we are particularly focused on our audiences being able to see and reflect themselves in the works that we perform.”
The company’s Attitude series has aimed to achieve just that. This year’s work, Other Voices, is focused on exploring issues of gender identity, sexuality and “what it means to be a man or woman.” Nashville composer (and Live in Studio C regular) Cristina Spinei will be among the artists writing original music for the production.
Audiences can once again look forward to hearing the Nashville Symphony throughout the season. Another highlight is next spring’s Modern Masters, which will see the symphony’s performances of Vivaldi (recomposed by Max Richter) and Arvo Pärt paired with music by the Rolling Stones.
